Blind Childrens Center.org

In 1990, actress Lee Meriwether was
kind enough to introduce me to a
very special Los Angeles-based, nonprofit organization that has impacted so positively the lives
of countless children.

Since then, my collectors and I
have donated to Blind Childrens Center.org. Your support is most welcome and appreciated.

With my sincere thanks,

In Memoriam: Ray Charles 1930-2004
Ray Charles and Andrew Lakey

“I will always remember Ray Charles for the help and encouragement he has given me across my career as an artist. I thank him for his appreciation and his support.”

–Andrew Lakey

In March 1990, Ray Charles became the very first collector of Andrew Lakey's paintings and artwork. Like nearly all of Lakey’s work, the painting has a raised surface, textured with many layers of acrylic paint. The late singer/songwriter, shown above with his painting Toxogon 2 Hundred Million B.C., spent over one hour with the artist, exploring the canvas with his fingertips.

The day Charles acquired the painting, he commented to Lakey, “Please share your artwork with blind children and people all over the world."

We would like to acknowledge our thanks to those who have donated their services and support,
without whom these efforts could not be possible: Day For Night, for the design and maintenance
of the site, Chip Morton Photography for donating photography and scans to our associated charities,
and to Doug Hartwick from Mom & Pops Frame Shop, for donating frames and mattes.
